Will there be a second generation Challenger?

No statements have been made by Chrysler but there was an article in Automotive News questioning if the the Challenger could survive. The numbers aren't good. Through the end of May 2011, there were 40275 Camaros sold. There were 30206 Mustangs sold. Only 16777 Challengers were sold. Both of the other pony cars come in a convertible from the factory(I know you can get a Challenger convert but unless you want to spend good money, its going to be a hack job). I think Chrysler/Fiat is going to ride this platform for as long as they can until they are forced to make a decision. And as good as the third gen Hemi is, it is still way behind Chevy and Ford in the part/price/power war.We shall see what they unveil at SEMA, whatever it is I'll have pics!

I'm not going to be mad if they Ax the Challenger sad but not mad. I feel as if they are not putting it out there for the public to see I mean 8-10 non car folks call mine a Camaro? The Transformer's Movie's put the other two cars in the Home of every family in the nation and fast five was a flop so Dodge never spent the money to get the car out there. I mean one George Washington ad isn't enuff. And yes John the Power Price and Aftermarket also are killing this car. The Cuda (if they make one) will not save the Farm. I think the factory blower or a true 426ci would help, but again they are later to market with either one.

for me it is a shame. growing up i loved all american muscle cars but it always seemed that even back in the 60's & 70's dodge/chrysler never got the whole public behind them. ford & chevy always carried more weight. even though chrysler/dodge owned several racing circiuts, i.e.. nascar, nhra, etc... in the couple of years between 68 - 72. it seems with chrysler/dodge its always short-lived. one issue with the lx cars & challengers is that they are physically heavier & bigger cars.

u can hardly call a challenger a pony car compared to a mustang. the camaro is also bigger than the mustang but more in line & still lighter than the challenger.

what sux for me is that the "hemi" was always regarding as a solid engine back in the day, and now with the 392 & 426 powerplants in the aftmarket, it is still regarded high. but i agree, if they dont use funds to market their cars and cut weight and put the 426 in showrooms, it may not survive.

the other deal is that camaro & mustang V6's appeal to all genders and since the cars are lighter,with better tuned suspensions, they ride a bit better....hence at a lower price & pretty good punch they can sell double or triple numbers compared to the V6 dodges. so, dodge never really stood a chance in the numbers game. unless u r a true car guy/gal who loves mopar, that is the only true market. That means that the economic theory of supply/demand works against dodge.

sorry for long rant, but even loving chevy's all my life, i always had a soft spot for mopars. and, when the lx cars came out, they were above everyone....mainly because firebird/camaro was on a hiatus and chevy only had the monte carlo (fwd V6's). dodge should have done more before mutang & chevy caught up and are now starting to pass 'em.

personally i think the lx cars & challengers in sheer look are way better than camaros & mustangs. thats my opinion. not sure which i would go to if the challengers would be discontinued.

This is from a guy in the plant that in 2013 there will be a factory supercharger available and it will put out 555 hp.

Consider this, one of Chrysler's motivations to block the engine controller was to slow down the aftermarket part sales for their performance line of vehicles so they themselves, Chrysler could reap the profits from the sale of performance parts and dealership installation of such parts. In the near future you'll be able to buy and have installed a full line of performance parts including superchargers, which will come with a computer module that will adjust computer parameters just like what is done when you modify a tune with a predator tuner. Of course this is just me thinking out loud but I think it will become a reality as we approach late 2012 and into 2013. Or on the other hand the whole V8 performance line of cars will fade into the sunset.....for now hang on to what you got, we'll just have to see what happens.
