Gear upgrade Getrag 3.06 v 3.73
Looking to upgrade my rear diff to a 2009 Getrag setup with 226mm axles but wasnt sure if 3.73 would be too tall of a gear for my daily driver. i do a lot of highway driving 60 miles a day (round trip to / from work) and run avg 80 mph on turnpike. I would see track time may once a month, if that, from March - Nov for the HHP race series at e-town. So thought 3.06 would be better choice given the daily driver / highway driving. but still wanted to upgrade rear for when i get the Drag Radials.
I researched on lxforums.com, but guys had differing opinions on 3.06 v 3.73. it would be nice if they offered a 3.23 gear.
John (sinistr) what gears are you upgrading to? 3.06, 3.73, or 3.92 on yours? i know its not a daily driver so your set up may be different especially if its gonna mainly see track time.
any thoughts?

Re: Gear upgrade Getrag 3.06 v 3.73
The set up that I will be installing is a 3.06 out of an MSRT8. The 3.73 will be fun for daily driving but it will effect your mpg's( driving at a higher rpm). For the track the 3.73 will help you leave quicker but it will also change your top end. The increase in rpms are going to force you to shift into 4th before the traps and without an increase in cam lift or head flow may actually drop the car out of the powerband on the top end(slower et).
The Dr's that we run are shorter than the stock tire so it will give the vehicle the effect of a numerically higher number but shorter gears( spins faster).

thx john for input. that's the way i pushing (going to 3.06). i did read that with the 3.73 (and no incr in cam lift / head flow) you'd have to shift to 4th thru the traps which would result in lower et's since you lose a bit on top end.
